“Indian cities need more airports” – Vijay Mallya

On the second day of Airport and Airline Expo 07, more than 250 delegates attended the conference which was addressed by among others, Dr. Vijay Mallya, Group Chairman, Kingfisher Airlines. Calling India a land of opportunities, he said that with the boom in the industrial sector and richness in human resources, India was and still remains one of the wealthiest countries in the world.

According to Mr. Mallya, the aviation growth rate has gone upto around 50% in the last two years and 25% of this growth is in the corporate business sector. “With our economic development, we have a magic world called aspiration and it is this aspiration which is driving the Indian market”.


He highlighted the need to remove the congestion surcharge. Delhi and Mumbai, the two economic hubs of India, have the highest congestion of about 50%. Therefore, it has become important for the air traffic controllers to use new technologies. He also stressed on the need for increasing number of airports. “The time has come that every major city in India should have more than one airport. We need green fields airports, planed well in advance”.

Kingfisher, ‘a premium full carrier’, has been voted the best airline in India by many journals. Designed to meet all the demands of the passengers, it is the only airline in India which offers live television on board. “We have invested in being different and that shows in the product quality and in the whole flying experience. Kingfisher has indeed gone down to every minute detail in providing the finest flying experience.
