New Delhi, Dec 14. (PTI): The Government has authorised the two state-owned carriers, Jet Airways and Air Sahara to operate under low visibility conditions, even as Jet today said it had positioned its 170 CAT-II trained pilots in Delhi and other areas to tide over fog-related delays.
Four new carriers, Kingfisher, SpiceJet, Indigo and Air Deccan have also been granted initial authorisation for operating in the Category-II Instrument Landing System meant for low visibility operations, official sources said.
The Government had last year directed all airlines to train pilots on the CAT-II and CAT-III systems, if they wanted to operate from the northern airports during the foggy winter seasons. The number of pilots trained in CAT-II has gone up by 133 and CAT-III by 136.
A Jet Airways spokesperson said, 170 pilots have been trained in CAT-II operations and they would be positioned in Delhi and across the network to enable the airline operate its morning and evening flights in and out of Delhi and minimise flight disruptions and delays. |
